This essay will compare two stories, which include Ramayana, and Gilgamesh which we have learnt in the coursework. These two stories have similarities as well as differences in the mankind life, and that is the reason why they create a good comparison. In the first place, the two stories are remarkable because they were developed little after the coming of mankind. Evidence shows that the two stories give accounts on how culture differs in different cultural setting.

From very early on, Gilgamesh can be seen as an epic hero. Several traits that prove he is an epic hero are shown by his skill, intelligence, reverence, valor, and respect for death.

He goes into battle to fight harmful beasts and rid them from the world. He also travels to far away lands in order to do things to help is people. His friendship with Enkidu is also a prime example of the respect he has for other people. On the other hand, Rama is also an epic hero but in a little different fashion.

Instead of being the typical epic hero that fights mighty beasts and saves the day, Rama exhibits qualities that everyday people strive for. Two in particular would be his obedience and his nobility. He shows a lot of obedience and respect in the way he handles being banished.

He is cast out unjustly of the place that he was supposed to rule over and does not raise a single argument or concern. He goes willingly and without question with respect for the authority set before him. His other major quality is his nobility.

Nobility is a defining quality of a hero. Rama shows this primarily in the way he honors the Dharma. It would not be considered honorable to kill an unarmed opponent but Rama does not kill Ravana when he has the chance because of this. Instead he tells him to come back refreshed the next day.
